Oroville School District Announces Internal Appointment of Linda Achondo as Next Superintendent

Oroville, WA — November 2025

The Oroville School District Board of Directors is pleased to announce the unanimous (5-0) appointment of Ms. Linda Achondo as the next Superintendent of Oroville School District, effective August 2026. The appointment was made following a thoughtful planning process initiated by the current Superintendent, Dr. Jeff Hardesty, who formally notified the Board earlier this past August of his intention to resign effective August 31, 2026.

While it was unclear at the time whether the appointment would include Ms. Achondo, her selection reflects a confident and strategic transition plan that began this fall. Dr. Hardesty’s proactive decision gave the district nearly a full year to design a responsible succession process. This rare opportunity for a full-year onboarding ensures continuity in leadership, uninterrupted momentum for major initiatives, and a fiscally responsible transition that avoids costly consultant fees, recruitment delays, and costly delays or sweeping changes to the District’s strategic focus.

Ms. Achondo brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served as Assistant Superintendent, Elementary Principal, and most recently as Secondary Principal. Her tenure in Oroville—marked by effective leadership, trust with staff, and a deep understanding of district priorities—positions her well to carry forward the vision and progress under Dr. Hardesty’s leadership.

“This is not only a vote of confidence in Ms. Achondo,” notes Board Chair Egerton, “it is a vote of confidence in our district’s direction and in the staff who have worked tirelessly to move us forward. We are committed to honoring the work our hardworking staff have already set in motion—work that has proven successful—while ensuring a seamless transition that keeps students, staff, and community at the center.”

A formal transition plan will be developed jointly between Dr. Hardesty and Ms. Achondo over the coming months, with opportunities for community engagement and shared leadership shaping the road ahead.
