COVID-19

April 20, 2022

Dear Parent or Guardian:

Although we have been able to scale back on some of our COVID mitigation strategies, we do still need to monitor for illness in the school.  Attached you will find the latest Washington State Department of Health charts for help to navigate the approach to take for your student with any symptoms of illness.  Please keep your student(s) home if they are ill.  They can return when their symptoms have improved and they have been fever free for 24hrs without fever reducing medication.  They will need to have a COVID test to return to school UNLESS they were experiencing ONE symptom on the green symptom list (see chart) that resolved within 24hrs.  COVID testing is offered at the schools.  If you have questions regarding these charts, please call the school nurse at (509) 476-3332.

 Estimado padre o Guardianes:

Dear Parents and Guardians:

We are glad to see all of our students returning to school following our holiday break.  The Oroville School District would like to provide you an update regarding our current COVID situation and revisit our protocols so we can continue to successfully operate with in-person learning and keep our doors open.

You may have heard the CDC has decreased isolation and quarantine time frames.  At this point, the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) has NOT approved this change for school districts throughout the state.  At this time, we are required to continue with the protocols we have had in place for this school year which includes a 10-day isolation period for any COVID positive student/staff and a 7-day quarantine period for close contacts (with a negative test done on days 5-7 and return to school on day 8).  There is a possibility the protocols will change and we will communicate any changes with you if that happens.

The Washington State DOH and our local public health officer, Dr. James Wallace, have informed the region’s school districts it is predicted we will be seeing a surge of COVID cases with the Omicron variant circulating.  Based on information provided by the DOH and Dr. Wallace, we can expect many of these cases to present with mild, cold-like symptoms.  PLEASE continue to keep your sick children home and plan to obtain a COVID test prior to their return to school.  We will continue to provide testing at the schools and you can call to arrange a testing time.  Symptoms we need to watch and conduct a test for include:

  • stuff/runny nose
  • cough
  • sore throat
  • fever/chills
  • fatigue
  • muscle aches
  • headache
  • nausea/vomiting
  • diarrhea
  • loss of taste and smell

Please remember that our goal is to reduce the likelihood of an outbreak so that we can maintain the staffing and student body to adequately provide in-person learning.  Oroville School District will continue to work diligently to keep our students attending in-person classes while keeping with the many quarantine requirements.  If there are any changes to our current protocols, we will inform you through future communications.  Thank you for continuing to work with us as we are navigating through this pandemic.

 Sincerely,

Jeff Hardesty
Oroville School District Superintendent

Estimados padres y tutores:

Atentamente,

Jeff Hardesty,
Superintendente del Distrito Escolar de Oroville
